Open the link to the University of Southampton homepage below and select 'About us'. Search for the answers to the questions and make a note of them in the spaces provided. Then check your answers by opening the feedback.
1. What is the University of Southampton in the 'top 15' in the UK for?
Research
The University of Southampton is one of the top 15 research universities in the UK; it is currently listed twelfth for research in the Sunday Times University League Table.
2. How many campuses are there at the University and what are they called?
There are six main campuses and several sub-campuses. The main ones are: Highfield Campus, Avenue Campus, Boldrewood Campus, National Oceanography Centre, Southampton General Hospital (for medical studies) and the Winchester School of Art.

3. Use the 'search' facility to find some information on the website about the 'history of Southampton'. How old do you think the university is?
In 2010 the University will have been in existence for 58 years.
The University began life as the Hartley Institute and was awarded the Royal Charter in 1952. It celebrated its Golden Jubilee (50 year anniversary) in 2002.
5. Look at 'Academic Schools' to find out about some of the key staff are at the University. How many Deans there are? Can you find who the Vice-Chancellor is?
There are three Deans, one for each of the three faculties in the University:
The Faculty of Law, Arts and Social Sciences
The Faculty of Engineering, Science and Mathematics
The Faculty of Medicine, Health and Life Sciences
